Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2018 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh with Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. James passed away in Norfolk on March 22, 2018. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.beyersnidermemorialfh.com. James Christian Van Ert was born on October 30, 1937 in Kansas City, MO to Amelia (Beck) and Henry Van Ert. They moved back to Nebraska when he was two and he grew up close to Neligh. He attended Elementary School at Dist. 38 Antelope Co. and graduated from Neligh High School with the Class of 1955 He worked on irrigation and drove a gravel truck before working at the Old Mill in Neligh. December 31, 1958 he was united in marriage to Patty Anderson of Meadow Grove at St. Francis Church in Neligh. They were blessed with 7 children. They lived on a farm near Neligh until 1983. He later remarried and to this union a daughter, Jamie was born. He worked at Kvols Feedlot and resided in Wisner until he moved back to Neligh in 2014. In 2016 he moved to Prairie View Assisted Living in Tilden. In January 2017 he moved to Bel AIr Nursing Home in Norfolk. He was a member of Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered for wearing his cowboy hat, tasty macaroni salad and grilling, baking cookies, pheasant hunting, gambling, and playing bingo and winnings were candy bars for the family and grandkids. She graduated from O’Neill High School in 1973. She attended the Lincoln School of Commence for Court Reporting in Lincoln, NE. Joan spent most of her life in North Platte, working as a dispatcher for the North Platte Police Department, then later for the State Patrol. She married Steven Nelson on August 12, 1993 in Denver, Colorado. In 1995, the couple moved back to the Page, Nebraska area to help on the family farm. Joan enjoyed fast cars, especially her Corvette. She was a huge animal lover and always had a special place in her heart for horses, dogs, and cats. Being a grandmother was Joan’s favorite thing to do. She loved to spend time with and take care of her grandkids. Arlene Lillian Larson, daughter of Henry and Anna (Barnhardt) Ehlers, was born October 22, 1924, at Lindy, Nebraska. She attended country school near her home through the eighth grade. In April of 1944, Arlene was united in marriage to Raymond A. Larson at Yankton, South Dakota. They were blessed with two children, Ardyce and Dennis. After Arlene and Raymond were married, they lived on a farm near Bloomfield, Nebraska. She was a farmwife and loving mother to her children. They moved to Creighton, Nebraska in 1979. After her husband passed away, Arlene worked at Sherry’s Fashion and Fabric and also cleaned at North Central Public Power. She enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, embroidery, and baking. Arlene loved spending time with her family and visiting with friends. She was a member of Faith United Church and the Ladies Aid. Arlene is survived by her children, Ardyce (Bob) Follette of Norfolk, Nebraska and Dennis Larson of Neligh, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Lori (Dave) Batenhorst of Norfolk, Tammy Grupe of Ainsworth, Nebraska, Kristi Harmeier of Norfolk, and Shelley (Chuck) Sands of Neligh; 14 great-grandchildren, Tara, Tyler, Chelsey, Kyle, and Landon Batenhorst, Logan, Shelby, Megan, and Colby Grupe, Shaylyn and Payton Harmeier, and Lindsay, Mackenzie, and Sydney Sands; five great-great-grandchildren, Madisen, Beckett, Laynie, Breese, and Cooper; sister, Dorothy Greckel; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Golter was born on April, 10, 1936 in Norfolk, NE to Gus and Elisa (Bramer) Golter of Osmond. He attended country school near Orchard and graduated from Orchard High School in 1953. Paul lived on the family ranch north of Orchard and was a lifelong steward of the land where he cared for all creatures, great and small. He enjoyed finding fossils on his property and supporting the preservation work of Ashfall. He found joy in many things including reading, travel, rebuilding engines, stock car racing, storytelling, good food, friends and his family. If you were fortunate to know him you likely enjoyed his stories and hospitality. He will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marilyn and children Paula Parker (Jack Leary) of Austin, TX; Gigi (Larry) Inness, Omaha, NE; Gretchen Golter (Eliot Siegman) of Lincoln, NE; Julie (Rick) Glandt of Madison, NC; Melanie Golter (Sam Nash) of Greensboro, NC; Brian (Liza) Golter of Avondale, PA; Heidi (Travis) Webb of Norfolk; Justin Golter of Fremont; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Geyer, daughter of Carl and Laura Brachle, was born February 11, 1935. She attended District 18 Boone County School in rural Petersburg, Nebraska and later received her GED. On April 8, 1956, Genevieve was united in marriage to Donald Geyer in Columbus, Nebraska. They were blessed with four children, Laurie, Lisa, Mark, and Matthew. Genevieve and Donald made their home in Newman Grove and Albion, where the couple farmed. When they retired, they moved into Norfolk. Genevieve was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. She loved gardening, flowers, and embroidering quilt blocks. Genevieve is survived by her husband, Donald; children, Laurie (David) Eggers, Lisa (Russell) Johnson, Mark (Becky) Geyer, and Matthew (Jenny) Geyer; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Darlene (Clayton) Dozler of Elgin, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Laura Brachle; and brothers, Robert and Richard Brachle. Stella Mae (Anson) Wies was born May 30, 1931. To Willard and Mary Anson in Orchard, Nebraska. She graduated from Orchard High School in 1949. She married Byron Hall and they farmed near Orchard until his untimely death. She then moved to town where she met and married Joe Wies. They had one daughter Christie. They owned and operated the Orchard Motel for 20 years. They then retired and later moved to Neligh to be nearer to their daughter and granddaughters. They were active members of the Orchard United Methodist church. They were married 45 years until Joe's death just 5 months ago. She passed away February 26th, 2018 at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh. She is survived by daughter Christie and Walter Counts. Granddaughters Krystal and Kendra Carr. Donna and Darrell Hamilton. Many nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by her parents, siblings; Bernard, Emma Thelander, Albert, Gene, Dave, Zola Stark. |
