Louise Edith Ruterbories, age 90, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born August 9, 1927 in Rolla, Missouri the daughter of Walter and Louella Lewis Underwood. Louise graduated from Barstow High School in California. She also attended Wayne State College in Nebraska where she received a teaching certificate. She was married to Arvid Belgum from 1947 – 1962. She was married to Caryl Ruterbories from 1970 – 1991. Louise taught school in one-room country schools throughout Nebraska for 10 years. She worked for the State of Nebraska in the Welfare Social Office at Neligh, Nebraska for over 18 years. She is survived by a son, Bruce (Marsha) Belgum of Omaha, Nebraska; a daughter, Lynda Pollman of Topeka; a sister, Frieda (Nolen) Gines of Salt Lake City, Utah; four grandchildren and nine great grand children.

Eugene Cecil Moser was born on March 14th, 1948 to Leona (Montgomery) Moser and Cecil Lloyd Moser. He graduated from Orchard High School with the class of 1966. Gene entered into the Army in 1968 and did his basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington. He then served in Vietnam where he walked point and was a sniper. Gene returned home in 1969 to farm with his dad. Gene married Lynette Classen and to this union five daughters were born. Terra Kay, Brooke Deneise, Candace Jean, Page Marie, and Lindsey Dawn. On March 31st, 1990 he married Becky Sue Green at the Presbyterian Church in Ewing, NE. After farming he and his family moved to Orchard where he worked at the Orchard Cheese Factory for several years and then as a custodian at the Orchard Public School until he retired in 2010. At the present time he was helping out at Mitteis Gravel during the summer months and during the winter he enjoyed sitting in his chair with his grand dog, Phoebe, watching the snow fly. Gene’s greatest pride was his five daughters and their families. You could always find him sitting on the bleachers supporting his children and grandchildren in whichever sport they were playing at that time. Whether it be Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling, Track, Softball or Baseball, he was there and always wearing the coordinating color for that town. His dresser drawers are filled with orange, green and red shirts, so he never had a problem with not knowing what to wear. Gene also enjoyed golfing with the men on Thursday nights for men’s league. This night was the only night that his golf game may have taken precedence over his grandkids’ activities. He always looked forward to going south for a couple of weeks in the winter and of course, to Vegas once a year. Proceeding him in death were his parents, his mother-in-law, Darlene Green and a brother-in-law, Lyle Sparr. Survivors include, his wife, Becky, his five daughters, Terra and Neil Williby of Royal, Brooke and Chris Mann of Winside, Candace Moser and Michael Nelson of Orchard, Page and Jeremy Wagner of Ewing, Lindsey and Brian Switzer of Royal, 15 grandchildren, Brock and Dalton Williby, Mercedes and Zach Bretschneider, Sean and Jacoby Mann, Kinzly and Eli Macke, Landon Nelson, Wyatt, Brenna, and Mathias Wagner, Jaiden, Gage, Taelyn and Ruger Switzer, one step grandchild, Heather Jackson, one great granddaughter, Willow, three step great granddaughters, Aubrey, Autumn, and Avery, one sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Eldon Schacht of Orchard, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She grew up on the farm with her brothers and sister, attended St. Boniface Catholic School in Elgin, and graduated in 1950. She was married to George Hemenway on December 28, 1968, and became the stepmother to seven children. She was a member of the Christian Mothers at St. John’s for many years. Catherine enjoyed working in the garden and playing cards. She is survived by her husband George Hemenway of 49 years, stepchildren: Barb (Guy) Beals of Bailey, CO; Bev Anderson of Kathryn, ND; Donna (Mike) Fancher of Colorado Springs, CO; Terry (Trish) Hemenway of Orchard, NE; Tim (Dawna) Hemenway of Clearwater, NE; and 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Frank J. Kamphaus, 87 of Elgin, NE passed away, Monday, April 9, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Frank Joseph Kamphaus was born March 22, 1931 to Frank Sr. and Helen (Hoffmann) Kamphaus at Tilden, NE. He grew up on a ranch west of Elgin and later a farm northeast of Raeville, NE. He attended grade school at Sunnyside School west of Elgin, St. Boniface School in Elgin, and St. John Berchman’s School in Raeville. At age 19, his father passed away and he took over managing the farm. On June 11, 1955, Frank married Clara R. Hinrichsen from Chambers, NE at St. Bonaventure Church in Raeville. He was drafted by the US Navy and spent two years at Alameda CA. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Nebraska and resumed farming for several years, before taking a job driving a gasoline transport for Bergstrom and Knievel for ten years. The next four years he drove truck over the road for Knievel Inc., hauling gasoline, livestock and fertilizer. He then began a 20-year career working for the Antelope County Road Department. Following his retirement in 1997, he worked part-time for Kevin and Pam Dinslage until 2009. Frank was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, and enjoyed working, trucking, farming and gardening. He is survived by his wife Clara of Elgin, NE; two daughters: Ramona (Al) Hagemeister of Phoenix, AZ; Ruth (Terry) Wornath of Powell, WY; one granddaughter Christa Czajka (Matthew Robinson) of Phoenix, OR; two brothers: Anthony Kamphaus of Albion, NE; Henry (Mary) Kamphaus of Norfolk, NE; a sister Margaret Kamphaus of Post Falls, ID; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and his special buddy Sawyer Veik. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; brother Nicholas Kamphaus, and two sisters: Bertha Arnberger and Rosemary Budd. Martha was born in Manhattan, KS May 14th, 1945 the daughter of Clare and Georgiana Porter. The family moved to Lincoln, NE in 1947 where she lived until graduation from University High School. She attended the University of Missouri for three years and later graduated from Morehead State University. In 1966 she married Terry Drayton and in 1974 they moved to Orchard, NE from Moorhead, MN where she resided until her death. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Terry, two sons, David of Omaha, Scott and grandsons Adam and Wendel of Lincoln and a brother, Alan of Santa Barbara, CA. Martha will be missed by her family and a host of friends including lifelong friendships developed while growing up in Lincoln and later ones developed in Orchard and Palm Desert, CA. She loved working as a volunteer and board member of the Orchard Public Library for many years. She also enjoyed her time spent on behalf of the Orchard United Methodist Church and as a volunteer at the annual Indian Wells Tennis Open in Ca. Martha was avid reader and art enthusiast who enjoyed learning about art through monthly education classes at the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha. There will be a memorial service Saturday, May 5th, 2018 at Orchard United Methodist Church, Orchard, NE. A Mass of Christian burial for Robert M. Spieker, 94, of Neligh, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Neligh with Father Christopher Onuoha, officiating. Robert Matthew Spieker, son of Fred and Louise (Friedman) Spieker, was born January 22, 1924 in Petersburg, NE. Robert was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg. He grew up and helped on the family farm north of Petersburg until he went to the Army in 1944. He was assigned to the 152nd Infantry Company D and transferred to Guam and Leyte Island in Philippine Island, 315 Bomb Wing of 20th Air Force D29 Air Craft MP Company and assigned Military Police Deputy. On September 15, 1953, he married Laura Mae Sehi at St John's Church in rural Clearwater, NE. They celebrated their 64th anniversary last fall. To this union, 11 children were born: Carol Anderson, Karen Eischeid, James Spieker, Annette Spieker, Jannelle Risinger, Vera Sullivan, Cary Spieker, Lynette Faltin, Roberta "Bobbi" Kennedy, Connie Snyder, and Terri Spieker. When first married, they lived on a farm near Park Center area west of Elgin and farmed south of Elgin for several years. They moved to a farm near Brunswick, NE in 1963 and still farm to this present day. Robert was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. He enjoyed farming the land, raising pigs or cattle and raising all those children along with his bride, Laura Mae. When he was not farming, he enjoyed fishing and camping in South Dakota, and the last 20+ years he enjoyed winters in Laughlin, NV. Robert is best known for his love of laughter as he had many 'stories and jokes' that will be long remembered. He often had that smile on his face and would start laughing before he told the punch line. He was a kind and gentle soul that will be forever missed but he left his legacy of faith and family. She was raised on Roy and Margarets farm with her older brother, Jerry and younger brothers John (Jack) and Pat. She graduated from Neligh High School 1945. She was united in marriage to Arlo Rice on June 10, 1951, just prior to Arlo's deployment to Korea. They had three children, Michael, Ron and Mary Jo. she obtained her teaching degree and degree in Library Science. She was a life long member of St. Francis Catholic Church and also a member of the Rosary Sodality. Throughout her life she was an avid reader, gardener, and music lover. She survived by her sons, Dr. Michael J. Rice of Denver, CO, Ron (Deb) Rice of Neligh, NE, and son-in-law, Doug Schueths of South Dakota. She grew up on a farm near Brunswick. Velva graduated from Brunswick High School. On September 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Wayne Fallesen at the Neligh Methodist Church. They lived in Neligh, where she worked at Triple A, and Dr. Hybl's office as an Optometric Assistant. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Civic and Fine Arts Club, March of Dimes for fund drives, and painting club. Velva enjoyed oil painting, crossword puzzles, and being a homemaker especially cooking. She is survived by her children: Peter (Shirlee) Fallesen of Pocatello, ID, Paul Fallesen of Omaha, NE, Ellyn (Bill) Walters of O'Neill, NE, and Jon (Mary) Fallesen of Lansing, KS. 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Rosella Rae Allar of Brunswick, Nebraska was born on April 9, 1931, to Joseph and Lydia (Pflanz) Allar. She was baptized in the Catholic faith and grew up on a farm outside of Randolph until her graduation from Randolph High School. She attended Nebraska State Teachers’ College where she earned her teaching certificate and subsequently taught at a local country school. Rosella met John Meuret from Brunswick while skating at the Plainview Roller Rink. They married September 19, 1953, and began their life in Brunswick where John worked in the family business, J E Meuret Grain Co. They lived in South Carolina for a short time while John was in the army before returning to Nebraska where they would spend the next 64 years together. They raised 10 children in a small town with most helping in the family business. Rosella spearheaded the establishment of the Brunswick Public Library and in later years regularly volunteered at the Siena/Francis House and Essential Pregnancy Services in Omaha. She was an active member of St Ignatius Catholic Church, teaching religion classes and serving as a Eucharistic minister. After joining the Omaha Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (OACCW) she held several offices, finally serving as president before receiving that organization’s Mullen Award. This is the highest honor bestowed by that organization, awarded annually in recognition of work for the council, community and deanery as well as civil, educational and interfaith groups. Rosella passed away peacefully in Omaha on April 2, 2018, surrounded by her husband and children. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marilyn Hochstein and Velma Gries; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Meuret. She is survived by husband John; children, Pamela Fusselman (Doug), Patrick Meuret (Holly), Michael Meuret (Mary), Michelle McCrady (Kim), Jacque Haupt (Joe), Jeffrey Meuret (Linda), James Meuret (Laurie), Julie Maloley (Skip), Katherine Bessmer (Joel), and Kevin Meuret; 67 grandchildren; and 50 great grandchildren. She will be remembered as a matriarch who lived the virtues of humility, patience and love, instilling in her family the importance of family prayer and living a Christ-like life. Funeral services for Duane Stelling, age 88, of Bloomfield, Nebraska will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2018, at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton, Nebraska. Duane died Monday, March 26, 2018, at his residence. Duane Gordon Stelling, son of Chris and Erna (Eggen) Stelling, was born March 7, 1930, in Orchard, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Orchard. Duane attended and graduated from Orchard High School in 1947. On August 14, 1949, Duane was united in marriage to Violet Auman. They were married at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. God blessed this family with two sons, Timothy and Mark. Duane and Violet were blessed to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in 1999. After farming in the Orchard community, Duane and Violet moved their family to Bloomfield where they operated a successful dairy operation and cattle farm. Dairy was in Duane’s blood. In 1950, a year after they were married, Duane and Violet established their dairy herd with the purchase of three bred Holstein heifers from Wisconsin. One of his proudest accomplishments was being named by the Nebraska Dairyman’s Association as recipient of its state distinguished dairyman award in 1982. Following the dispersal of the dairy cows in 2000, Duane continued to farm and feed cattle, participating in the daily operation until his health prevented him. Duane served on the Harrison Township Board and Nebraska Dairy Association. He used his God given talents to the glory of God and was actively involved in his church, serving on various committees at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield. Duane departed this life on Monday, March 26, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Erna; sister, LaVonne in childhood; wife, Violet in 2011; and sister and brother-in-law, Robert and Karen Schwager. Left to cherish Duane’s memory are his sons, Timothy and his wife Linda of Osakis, Minnesota and Mark and his wife Karen of Bloomfield, Nebraska; grandchildren, Eric and Deb Stelling and Nathan and Shirley Stelling, all of Osakis, Stacy Hlatky of Long Prairie, Minnesota, and Nick and Beth Stelling and Eric and Julie Ketelsen, all of Bloomfield; great-grandchildren, Amber and Payton Hlatky, Austin Stelling, Grant Stelling, Piper, Parker, and Padden Stelling, and Raegan, Kenna, And Lainey Ketelsen; brothers, Lee (Neoma) Stelling of Orchard and Ken (Darlene) Stelling of Plainview; sister, Saundra (Walter) Biermann of Wisner, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews. |
