A resolution to the Clearwater-Orchard site location stalemate may be on the horizon. The Orchard Board offered scheduling a special meeting following the upcoming strategic planning workshop during the Clearwater-Orchard Joint Advisory Board of Educators met in Orchard on Monday evening.
Orchard Board President Candace Hoke said, “We feel our best avenue to resolve our site location issue is through strategic planning at our upcoming all-member board workshop. We are hopeful that this will help us meet our goal and stand together in moving forward as the Cyclones.”
The upcoming workshop on May 11 is an all-board workshop to work out a strategic plan for the unified district. Hoke said she hopes to have a solution by then to address the timeline motion on site location.
“We will hopefully come out of the workshop with a resolution, have that meeting and decide on this and move on,” Hoke said.
Orchard Principal Cathy Cooper gave an update from the recent meeting of board members from Ewing, Clearwater/Orchard and Verdigre as they discussed the needs of each school district with the possibility of Ewing joining the unified board district.
Cooper said there is a feasibility study under progress right now to explore six options:
Pre-Kindergarten-4 at one site, 5-8 at one site, and 9-12 at one site.
Pre-Kindergarten-4 at each site, 5-8 at one site, and 9-12 at one site.
PreKindergarten-6 at each site with a new building in the middle housing 7-12

There is also discussion to coop at least some sports in the near future, as soon as next year. There was a discussion and agreement among those who were there to bring that back to the advisory boards and boards of education to discuss the possibility of co-oping some sports for next year.
A motion was passed by both boards to explore opportunities to co-op with Ewing on all activities.
During the meeting, Cooper reported that they have a verbal commitment to fill the technology and business position.
“That would mean that we have filled all of our positions for the upcoming school year,” Cooper said.
The next Clearwater/Orchard Joint Advisory meeting will be at Clearwater on June 6 at 7:00 p.m.
