A fifth grader set a new reading record at Orchard this past school year.
Carter Bergman, a fifth grader from Orchard Public School, earned 873.2 points, a record total of AR (Accelerated Reader) points for a single school year.
His teacher Tami Kuhfal said each quarter a reading goal is set and each student has an individual point goal. As they achieve their goals, the point goal becomes more challenging.
"Carter reached his goal within the first three weeks of each quarter," his teacher said.
Mrs. Kuhfal would then increase the goal to encourage him to read more.
He said he loves reading fantasy, and his favorite book this past year was "Eragon."
