The Orchard High School Alumni Association will be having their Annual Banquet this Saturday, May 28.
A Salute to Champions will honor achievements in Academics, Arts and Athletics. Special recognition will be given to Justin Mosel, the 1996 National Geography Bee 3rd place winner. The 1977 State Champion Midget Baseball team, and the 1995-96 State Runner-Up Football Team as well as other outstanding individuals and teams will be introduced, including the 1974 Class C State Runner-up Volleyball team and the 2002 D2 State Runner-up Volleyball team. Special guests this year include the Honor Classes of 1941, 1966 and 1991. Three living members of the 75 Year Class of 1941 will be recognized: Alvera Rabe Everson, Dale Willats and Jack Fuhs. The 50 Year Class of 1966 includes Dennis Auman, Kerry Barnhart, Janice Berney Twibell, Judith Blain Hanson, Robert Bonge, Jackie Classen Auman, Mary Fox Dounay, Roland Frahm, Kay Hahlbeck, Edwin Johnston, Master St. Leon Meyer, Andrea Mitteis, Sharon Mosel Wyss, Gene Moser, Richard Parkhurst, Jody Reynolds Stelling, Elaine Riege Scott, Gordon Sirek, Bradley Stelling, Dale Strope, Richard Schwager, Lynn Thelander, and Rebecca Twibell Johnston. The class will be honoring their classmate Lee Napier who lost his life in Vietnam in 1969. The 25 year Class of 1991 members are Scott Baker, Angela Belik Larsen, Jennifer Blain, Marie Brandt, Trudy Carlson Bearinger, Mary Ferris Pease, Travis Hawk, Shannon Heiss, Gina Larson Thomson, Branden Menning, Brooker Moser Mann, Aaron Rang, Tim Schwager, Angela Singley Hawk, Troy Smith, Kathleen Summers Bach, Jannette Tadken, Greg VanEvery, and Christine Wies Counts. Guest speaker is Ron “Gus” Gustafson of Lincoln. Raised on a farm in Lyons NE, Gustafson was a standout basketball player in high school in spite of having lost his right arm and shoulder in a tragic childhood farm accident. A knee injury ended his collegiate basketball career. His faith and courage sustained him and he redirected his energies, building outstanding academic and business careers. Doors to the school will open at 5:00pm, with the Social Hour beginning at 5:30. The Banquet will start promptly at 6:30. Class pictures will be taken during the Social Hour.
