Funeral Services For Frank Kamphaus

Frank J. Kamphaus, 87 of Elgin, NE passed away, Monday, April 9, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, NE with Rev. Kevin Vogel officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 229 and VFW Post 5816 of Elgin, and the American Legion Riders. Visitation will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. wake service. Huffman-Levander Funeral Home of Elgin, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Joseph Kamphaus was born March 22, 1931 to Frank Sr. and Helen (Hoffmann) Kamphaus at Tilden, NE. He grew up on a ranch west of Elgin and later a farm northeast of Raeville, NE. He attended grade school at Sunnyside School west of Elgin, St. Boniface School in Elgin, and St. John Berchman’s School in Raeville. At age 19, his father passed away and he took over managing the farm.

On June 11, 1955, Frank married Clara R. Hinrichsen from Chambers, NE at St. Bonaventure Church in Raeville. He was drafted by the US Navy and spent two years at Alameda CA. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Nebraska and resumed farming for several years, before taking a job driving a gasoline transport for Bergstrom and Knievel for ten years. The next four years he drove truck over the road for Knievel Inc., hauling gasoline, livestock and fertilizer. He then began a 20-year career working for the Antelope County Road Department. Following his retirement in 1997, he worked part-time for Kevin and Pam Dinslage until 2009.

Frank was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, and enjoyed working, trucking, farming and gardening.

He is survived by his wife Clara of Elgin, NE; two daughters: Ramona (Al) Hagemeister of Phoenix, AZ; Ruth (Terry) Wornath of Powell, WY; one granddaughter Christa Czajka (Matthew Robinson) of Phoenix, OR; two brothers: Anthony Kamphaus of Albion, NE; Henry (Mary) Kamphaus of Norfolk, NE; a sister Margaret Kamphaus of Post Falls, ID; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and his special buddy Sawyer Veik.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; brother Nicholas Kamphaus, and two sisters: Bertha Arnberger and Rosemary Budd.
