Funeral Service For Shirley Elaine Meyer

Funeral services for Shirley Elaine Meyer, age 93, of Royal, Nebraska will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Royal Auditorium in Royal. Reverend Bev Hieb will officiate, with burial in Pleasant Valley/Pleasant View Cemetery in rural Royal.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton, Nebraska.

Elaine died Friday, August 17, 2018, at Avera Creighton Hospital.

Shirley Elaine Meyer was born August 3, 1925, at Royal, Nebraska to Oscar and Ellen (Wade) Bartsch. She attended Royal Public School K-12, graduating in 1943. Shirley then attended Wayne State Teacher’s College and subsequently taught in several Antelope County rural schools.
Elaine was active in many community events. She loved sports, especially baseball and softball, played several years in the Royal women’s softball team as pitcher with her sister, Eloise, the catcher. In later years, Elaine enjoyed spending many hours reading books.

Elaine was married to Charley Meyer on March 17, 1948, in a double wedding along with Eloise, who married Lawrence Johnson, at the Royal Methodist Church – the first and only double wedding ever held there. One child, Everett Charles, was born to this union on November 24, 1951. Charley passed away in 1995, after 47 years of marriage.

Elaine attended the Royal Methodist Church her entire life and was a member there until its closing in 2007. She held several offices during the years and hosted sunrise service at their home place for 40 years. Elaine also served on the election board for over 50 years.
Elaine took great pride in her grandchildren, taking in all of their activities while she was able.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ellen; and her husband, Charley.

​Elaine is survived by her son, Everett and wife Linda Meyer; sister, Eloise; grandchildren, Tori (Mike) Krick, Kimberly and Jason, and Greg and Kristin; great-grandsons, Kolton, Brendan, and Karson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
