Win Husker football tickets with the roll of a dice! The Lawn Mower "Poker" Run, a new event during Neligh's Bread 'N Jam Festival, is being sponsored by Jonny Dodge and Sargent Irrigation. Proceeds will benefit the Neligh-Oakdale TeamMates Mentoring Program. The idea came from Kay Schilling, a TeamMates board member, after she heard about this popular event in her hometown of Selby, So. Dak. "It sounded like something different and something fun," Schilling said. "The community of Selby had a really good response to it, and I hadn't seen anything like that in this area." The inaugural event in Neligh is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. in the Riverside Park picnic shelter, and the poker run will begin at 4:30 p.m. The entry fee is $15. So, what is a Lawn Mower Poker Run? Lawn mowers, ATVs, scooters, golf carts or bicycles may be driven to each of the designated six stops in Neligh. Children under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult. At each stop, participants will roll the dice. The highest overall score will win a parking pass and two Husker football tickets to the October 25 game vs Rutgers, donated by David Wanek and Maribeth Portz. Prizes will also be awarded to those wearing the best Husker attire. A walking taco/hotdog feed will follow the poker run at the Riverside Park picnic shelter. The cost is $5 and will include your choice of a walking taco or hotdog, drink and ice cream dessert. Click here to read the poster.
