With plenty of eyes watching the opening game of the season for Neligh-Oakdale, two of the team's stars etched themselves into school history.
In Neligh-Oakdale's 72-44 win over Creighton last Thursday, Grant White and Tyson Belitz were an unstoppable connection. That connection led to five new school records and nearly a sixth.
According to coach Ron Beacom, White's 423 passing yards took down a 36-year-old school record for most passing yards in a game. He gained those yards thanks to 26 completions, also a new school record, on 30 attempts. His six touchdowns broke his own school single game record as well.
Belitz was on the receiving end of most of those records. He accounted for 14 receptions, good for a new school record, for 228 yards, also a school record. He nearly shattered one more school record, this one for touchdown receptions in a game. He accounted for three to put himself in a tie on the school's record board.
Coach Beacom said he was proud of not only White and Belitz, but the offense as a whole.
"We executed our offense at a pretty high level, especially for the first game of the season," he said.
The Warriors are back in action as they look to keep the offense hot against Omaha Nation this Friday night in Macy.
