Neligh-Oakdale fans witnessed history Friday night in the Warriors' home-opener.
Midway through the second quarter of the boys' 65-29 win over Creighton, senior Tyson Belitz drove the lane and hit a routine layup and the student section erupted. That's because that layup gave Belitz his 1,000th career point.
He joins teammate Grant White, who reached the milestone last year, in the 1,000-point club. Belitz entered the night just 12 points away. He finished the night with 23 points on eight of 14 shooting.
White also had a strong night, finishing with 23 points, six rebounds and five steals. Chris Bentley and Alex Kerkman added six rebounds each and Austin Rice accounted for five.
Earlier in the night, the crowd saw the Lady Warriors fall to Creighton 46-26. Neligh-Oakdale hit on just 23 percent of their shots and gave up 33 turnovers as a team.
Heather Pellatz led the Warrior attack, scoring eight points and accounting for seven steals of her own. Jayda Chance added seven points and Bailey Frey had five.
Chance also brought down eight rebounds while Chase Vleck brought down seven.
Both boys and girls will be back at home next Tuesday when they host St. Mary's.
