The Warrior cross country team faced some of the most difficult running conditions of the season on Friday, according to Coach Rick Eickholt.
He said the cool weather and "30-plus mph winds" took a toll on the runners at the West Holt Invitational.
"I think that the wind really affected some of our runners' performances, both physically and mentally," Eickholt said. "Initially, my first response was that we didn’t compete very well, and although it wasn’t our best performance of the year, after I had the opportunity to take a closer look at the results, we did much better than I had first thought."
He said Boone Central was a late addition to "an already tough 16-team field."
Kasi Grosserode was the top finisher for Neligh-Oakdale in 11th place (22:39); Jayda Chance was 19th (23:17); and Brittany McConnel, 55th (28:39).
"Jayda was able to cut 15 seconds off her time at this meet last year under much better conditions," Eickholt said.
Michael Peinke finished 28th (20:07), and with the return of Dallus Christiansen in 46th (21:25), the boys team earned 11th place. Jordan Chelle and Connor Knievel ran stride for stride throughout a majority of the race, with Chelle (22:09) edging Knievel (22:12) by 3 seconds at the finish line for 52nd and 53rd, respectively. Jakub Raspl finished strong and crossed in 68th place (23:41).
