The Neligh Economic Development Office hosted its premier party Tuesday, officially kicking off the “This Is MY Neligh” marketing campaign.
Director Greg Ptacek, along with summer interns Alyssa Dye and Jessica Remaly, showed those in attendance the videos that feature Neligh residents via a GoPro camera to give viewers a view of the community from their perspective.
“This Is My Neligh” can be heard in each video, which showcases everything from diving into the swimming pool and riding in the bath tub races to buying groceries and running on the Cowboy Trail.
So which ones are the favorites? Those attending were leaning toward the swimming pool video, but several said it was hard to pick because so many were good.
As for the creators, they have different favorites. Ptacek said he liked the Old Mill Days video while Dye liked the Thriftway Market video. Remaly said her favorite is the video shot at Riverside Park.
Ptacek said the videos will be not only be used to recruit people to Neligh by showing them what Neligh has to offer, but will also help foster pride in the community.
"We're super stoked," Ptacek said. "We came up with the idea in January, so it's been a long time coming. Some videos, like the track one, was done three months ago and the pool video a month, so we've been hoarding them trying to wait until more were ready."
Ptacek said they videos turned out even better than he envisioned, mostly due to having assistance from two interns this summer. Remaly and Dye, both seniors at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, have spend a majority of their time filming and editing the videos.
"We wouldn't be this far this fast with them," Ptacek said. "I may have been able to do a video a month, so it's been very beneficial having them work on the project."
"We're hoping to go #ruralviral," Ptacek said, referring to how posts are tagged in the social media sites of Twitter and Facebook.
For those who want to help promote life in Neligh, Ptacek asks people to share the videos any way possible, from email to Facebook and Twitter. But remember - use the hashtag - #ThisisMYNeligh.
