The Neligh-Oakdale morning preschool class is filled with 20 ambitious four-and-five-year olds.
This year has been an adjustment. They come to school in the morning and they have spent more time with seat work.
All of this class will be moving to Kindergarten next year. To help prepare them for the transition, they have been working on the letters of the alphabet. They spend five days with each letter doing different activities, such as saying the sound, thinking of words that start with the letter, tracing, and writing the letter. One of their favorite activities is playing Erase the Face. We have made it through the letter V.
When we are finished with all the letters we are going to be trying a program called Language for Learning. They use this program in Kindergarten now and would like to see how it goes for the Preschool. It will be another change for them, but they will handle it well.
One of their favorite things was counting to 100 days of school. On the 100th day they had a pajama party. They practiced counting to 100 and played some games. Since our 100th day, they have been counting down the days until school is out. They enjoy seeing a number come off each day.
This year they will have a Preschool Graduation where they will sing some of their favorite songs and get a diploma for graduating preschool. They are looking forward to the Kindergarten Visitation day in May where they will get to eat lunch and spend some time in the Kindergarten rooms. All of the busy days have made the year go fast.
