Supervisors OK Hiring Of One Former Employee, Deny Other

The Antelope County Supervisors approved the hiring of one former employee Tuesday but denied another.

According to county attorney Joe Abler, who cited the Antelope County employee handbook, a former county employee is not eligible for rehire without prior approval by the county board.

Abler said the supervisors took action on two rehiring items Tuesday morning. The supervisors approved Sheriff Bob Moore’s request of board approval to hire Matt Wilkinson.

Wilkinson formerly worked for the county road department and had "resigned in good standing," according to Moore. He said Wilkinson will now be hired as a jailer/dispatcher for the sheriff's department and will begin "immediately." Supervisor Charlie Henery motioned to approve the request and Harlan Brandt seconded the motion. It was approved on a 6-0 vote. Merlin Bolling was absent.

Henery made the motion to denied Assessor Kelly Mueller’s request to hire of Doug Dennis, and LeRoy Kerkman seconded the motion. The rehiring was denied on a 5-1 vote. Brandt cast the dissenting vote.

Dennis formerly worked in the assessor's office.
