It’s a subject no one really wants to think about. But if someone depends on you financially, it’s one you cannot avoid. In the event of a tragedy, life insurance proceeds can: Pay for funeral costs. Help pay the bills and meet ongoing living expense. Pay off outstanding debt, including credit cards and the mortgage. Continue a family business. Finance future needs like your children’s education. Protect a spouse’s retirement plans. To make sure Americans are reminded of the need to include life insurance in their financial plans, the nonprofit organization Life Happens coordinates Life Insurance Awareness Month. Each September, Life Happens is joined in this educational initiative by more than 100 of the nation’s leading insurance companies and industry groups. Life Happens is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping consumers take personal financial responsibility through the ownership of life insurance and related products. The organization does not endorse any product, company or insurance advisor. Since its inception in 1994, Life Happens has provided the highest quality, independent and objective information for people seeking help with their insurance buying decisions. The organization supports the insurance industry by providing marketing tools and resources and convening the industry each September for Life Insurance Awareness Month. Life Happens is supported by more than 140 of the nation’s leading insurance company and financial services organizations. To learn more, visit: www.lifehappens.org. Melissa Smith, State Farm Agent in Neligh, recommends that those individuals with employer-sponsored Life Insurance to also carry a policy that they own, outside of the job. “If you were to become ill or injured and not able to work, your life insurance will likely be gone as well," she said. "In addition, your health may not allow you to obtain life insurance as you get older.” Smith suggests working with a local agent that you trust, to ensure your life insurance meets your needs and the needs of your loved ones. A local agent will be there for you, throughout your life events. |
