Public Voting, Council Choose New Logo For City Of Neligh

“A picture is worth a 1,000 words,” this saying has become increasingly more relevant in the last 150 years since photography has become extremely important in society.

No one can refute that imagery is incredibly important in our world. For this reason the City of Neligh, with some help from our Marketing Hometown America participants, worked with Pitzer Digital to develop a new logo for the City.

A logo is a depiction of a brand which helps identify aspects of that brand.

In late 2013, Neligh was chosen to participate in the Marketing Hometown America program. This program put on by UNL Extension Office and the Rural Future’s Institute asks current residents how to retain and attract new residents to small towns. Neligh had 9 groups ranging from 4 to 6 people per group participate in group discussions and ultimately developed a marketing plan. These groups presented their marketing plans at a town hall meeting. The overall consensus from the group was that Neligh has a lot to offer and the quality of life in Neligh is fantastic.

The Neligh Economic Development Office took the lead on developing the program further.  In February the Economic Development Office partnered with Pitzer Digital to develop a logo for the City of Neligh based upon the suggestions from the Marketing Hometown America groups. Five logos and four slogans were designed and put on the City’s Envision Neligh site for the public to vote for their favorite. There was a clear winner for the slogans from the Envision Neligh voting, however, the margin was slim in the logo voting. During a planning town hall meeting, those present were asked to vote for their favorite logo. Overall, 75 votes were cast.

The winner was taken to the City Council for final approval. “We are pleased to announce Neligh’s new logo!” Economic Development Director Greg Ptacek said, “The new logo features a firework to represent the 4th of July and Old Mill Days, a family to show that Neligh is a great and safe place to raise a family, and a tree to represent growth, outdoor activities, and Neligh’s amazing trees and park system. The three tiles are above the word Neligh and the City’s new slogan, ‘Not Too Small To Have It All’ which promotes the fact that Neligh has a lot of amenities and activities while still having the small-town feeling. The slogan comes straight from Stephanie Wanek’s Marketing Hometown America study group.”

Ptacek stated, “We are incredibly happy with the logo and slogan that were chosen. I feel they show Neligh as a great place to live and visit!” The logo/slogan will be slowly transitioned into the City of Neligh’s everyday operations, on newly purchased vehicles, the city’s letterhead, official documents, and online.
