NVC Wrestling: Warriors Win Title, Falcons 2nd, Cyclones 3rd

The Niobrara Valley Conference championship came down to the final seconds on Thursday night with Neligh-Oakdale edging Elkhorn Valley by just three points.

The Warriors won their second straight NVC title while the Falcons improved on their third-place finish in 2014. Neligh-Oakdale won the dual 36-33.

"These kids wrestled their tails off," Neligh-Oakdale coach Gary Davis said. "I'm proud of all of them."

The final dual of the night, the match was tied at 33 with 113-pounders Devan Breuer of Neligh-Oakdale and Dillon Steward of Elkhorn Valley matching each other move for move.

Still scoreless midway through the final period, Breuer got an escape in the final minute to go up 1-0. The Neligh-Oakdale junior then scored a take down with about 30 seconds remaining for the 3-0 advantage that held up for the win. 

Clearwater-Orchard took home third place in the conference. The Cyclones had their opportunities to against Elkhorn Valley, but the Falcons picked up some big points to seal the dual win, 40-30. 

Elgin Public/Pope John finished fourth in the consolation bracket.
