A damp, dreary day hasn't stopped progress in Riverside Park.
Crews are on hand from Wortman Concrete Pumping pouring concrete for a new park shelter in Neligh. The shelter is located between the grandstand arena and playground equipment by the ball fields.
The City of Neligh and Antelope County Ag Society are working together on the project. Ag Society Vice President Ed Pellatz said the location is where the fair typically placed a tent for the beer garden, but the tent was at the point of needing to be replaced.
"We were wanting something more permanent rather than a tent and felt a shelter would be of benefit to everyone throughout the summer, not just the week of the fair," Pellatz said. "Whether you're at a baseball game and need some relieve from the hot sun or watching your kids on the playground equipment, we thought this would be a benefit to the community."
The 30x50 open air structure will have a roof and poles and is significantly larger than the other shelters in Riverside Park. The shelter may have lighting eventually but will not be enclosed.
