With bands of all size participating, Neligh-Oakdale played through a downpour Saturday and won the overall band honor at the Lion’s Club Parade.
Director Nate Metschke was almost beside himself afterward with excitement.
“I’m stunned. You don’t expect something like this,” he said.
Last year, the Class C band earned second at Harvest of Harmony, but Metschke said they’ve never finished as the top band at this parade.
Neligh-Oakdale was named best in Class C and won the traveling trophy as the top overall band.
“These kids have worked hard,” he said. “I’m so proud of all of their work and effort that they’ve put into this. I couldn’t be happier with them.
Among the other local bands participating Saturday were Clearwater-Orchard, Verdigre, Wausa, Bloomfield, Creighton, Plainview and Osmond.
