Neligh-Oakdale Teams Break Records, Win Track Meet

The Neligh-Oakdale boys and girls both captured first place at the Antelope County Track Meet in Creighton yesterday.

 "The N-O Warriors performed well in, what was for many, their first competitive action of the year," said Rick Eickholt, boys head coach.  

The freshman foursome of Pepper Marchant, Marquis Granville, Tyson Belitz, and Grant White won the 3200 meter relay and set a new freshman record by recording a time of 9:40.1 Breaking the old record by more than 19 seconds. The record was previously held by Jason Helgren, Tyler Legate, Anthony Field, and Issac Wright. 

A second freshman record was broken when Ben Lingenfelter tossed the shot put, 42’ 10.” He broke the old freshman record by more than 2 feet. The previous record was held by Viktor Jonseth at 40’ 7”. Ben’s toss also places him in 10th place on the All-Time top 10 school list for the shot. 

Also cracking the Top 10 list were Zach Miller in the high jump (tie 8th), and Colby Wilkinson tied for 10th in the 100 m. dash. Also tying or breaking personal records were Colby Wilkinson in the 200m dash; Alex Kerkman in the high jump; Hunter McWorter in the high jump and 200 m. dash; and Grant White in the long jump and triple jump.

The girls had a very successful day with several athletes making the top 10 charts and setting personal records.

"It was an unbelievable team effort with all girls earning medals," said Terry Trautman, girls head coach.

Making Neligh-Oakdale's top 10 charts for best in school history were: Hayley Snodgrass moving to 3rd in the shot put; Kayla Wright, 4th in the 100 hurdles and 5th in the 300 hurdles; Alexis Jensen 9th in the 100 and 10th in the 200. Girls setting new personal records: Audrey Kester-triple jump, Abbi Payne-discus, Madi Ertz-200 m. dash, Chase Vleck-400 m. dash, and Kasi Grosserode-800 m. dash.

The Clearwater-Orchard girls team was the runner-up.

Boys' team scores: 
1. Neligh-Oakdale, 109.5
2. Orchard-Clearwater, 86.5
3. Elkhorn Valley, 80
4. Elgin-Elgin Pope John, 54
