Neligh-Oakdale earned fourth place out of 22 teams at the annual ESU 8 High School Quiz Bowl on Wednesday afternoon.
The Warriors lost their first match to Elgin Public, but then battled their way back through the loser's bracket to win five straight. They picked up wins over West Holt, Pierce, Stanton, Pope John and Stuart before falling to O'Neill, the eventual champion of the quiz bowl.
April Knust coached Neligh-Oakdale's team of Hailey Bixler, Kasi Grosserode, Rachel Higgins, Samantha Wright, Emma Bixler, Gage Dawson, Cole Belitz, Cade Wilkinson, Austin Rice, Christian Carothers and Tucker Knust.
All of Antelope County's schools participated in the quiz bowl:
Elgin Public defeated Neligh-Oakdale, then lost to Verdigre. In the loser's bracket, Elgin topped Osmond and Plainview before they, too, fell to O'Neill.
Pope John fell to Verdigre in the first round, but then defeated Ewing, St. Mary's and Elkhorn Valley before Neligh-Oakdale edge them out.
Clearwater-Orchard defeated St. Mary's, lost to Elkhorn Valley, defeated Wheeler Central and then lost to Osmond.
Elkhorn Valley defeated Clearwater-Orchard before falling to Stuart and Pope John.
