A Neligh man has been hospitalized with serious injuries following a boating accident at Calamus State Recreation Area Saturday afternoon.
Shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, a personal watercraft operated by Allen Vraspir of Neligh collided with another watercraft west of Little York Point on Calamus Reservoir. A 29 year old man, who was operating the second watercraft, was charged with boating under the influence and reckless operation. Witnesses say that the operators were weaving their watercraft back and forth when the collision occurred.
According to family, Vraspir was transported from the scene by ambulance to Ord, where he was then flown by helicopter to Kearney. After arriving in Kearney, staff discovered multiple internal injuries and that he would require special care. Vraspir was life flighted to UNMC in Omaha, where he remains in care.
Vraspir is a current Neligh resident and a 1996 graduate of Neligh-Oakdale schools.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Garfield County Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation.
