Three fire departments and aerial suppport responded to a fire about a half-mile wide east of Neligh on Wednesday afternoon.
The call came in shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Oakdale and Tilden were called for mutual aid to assist the Neligh Fire Department. Brian Wilcox of Wilcox Flying also provided water support through the air and several tractors disced the field behind the water trucks.
The fire was located in wooded area and stubble corn field west LaVern and Stacey Mitchell's home. The fire came within about 30 yards of their home and was extinguished in the shelter belt.
Mutual aid has been requested from Oakdale and Tilden, and they are now on the scene as well. Brian Wilcox of Wilcox Flying Service is dropping water by air and two tractors pulling discs are helping to contain the fire.
About 25-30 acres burned in the fire, which is still under investigation.
