Neligh Drive-In Celebrating 'National Drive-In Day' June 6

Help TK-Starlite Drive-In Theater in Neligh celebrate National Drive-In Movie Day on Saturday, June 6. 

Neligh is home to just one of two drive-ins left in the state and is a family-favorite event every summer, drawing people from all over the state to enjoy the "two-for-one" shows. Nearly all of the admission prices goes back to the movie companies, so it's important to realize patronizing the concession stand is key to keeping the drive-in open and thriving. 

National Drive-In Movie Day is celebrated annually in honor of drive-in creator, Richard M. Hollingshead Jr. of Camden, New Jersery. His very first drive-in theater opened June 6, 1933, with a 40x50 foot screen and could hold up to 400 cars. The movie "Wife Beware: was the first movie ever shown on an outdoor drive-in screen.

Just 19 years later, TK-Starlite Drive-In was opened in Neligh, Nebraska, at the height of the drive-in boom. It has been entertaining people for more than six decades and has a car capacity of 300. As one of the last two remaining in the state, stop by to show your support and have a great time. This weekend showings will be the movies, "Spy" and "Poltergeist."

"Spy" is a rated R comedy, starring Melissa McCarthy, about a CIA agent who volunteers to go undercover and infiltrate a deadly arms dealer’s world to prevent a global disaster.

"Poltergeist" is a PG-13 horror about a family house invested with evil spirits that capture the young daughter.

Kids ages 4-11 get in for $5, 12 and up is $8.
