The Neligh #1 Jr. Pee Wee baseball team lit up the scoreboards last week.

The team edged out Elgin 14-13 on Monday night and rolled to a 12-4 win over Tilden #3 on Sunday.

On Monday, Neligh "ground out a close win against a persistent Elgin team," according to Coach Chris Ford.

"The scoring began in the 2nd inning with a big triple by Gavin Longsdorf, who was later pushed across home on by a single by Carson Whitesel," Ford said. "The 3rd inning brought more strong batting with a maximum 5 runs being scored. The Warriors’ defense showed good composure by keeping Elgin from moving ahead in the 6th."

The coach said Longsdorf and Austin Rudolf combined for 5 triples which accounted for 7 RBI’s, which "were crucial in this very close game."

Singles: Austin R (2), Ty R (1), Jace C (1), Austin G (2), Carson W (2), Cameron S (2), Isiah (1); Doubles: Ty R (1), Carson W (1), Isiah A (1); Triples: Gavin L (3), Austin R (2)

In a make up game on Sunday, Ford said Neligh "used hot bats and solid defense in the later innings" for a convincing win over Tilden #3.

"The Warriors used 5 run innings in both the 4th and 5th and got 'three up, three down' innings in the 5th and 6th to close out the game," he said. "The Warriors’ defense showed up by shutting out Tilden in 4 of the 6 innings and only allowed 4 runs total."

Ford said the play of the night was when "Ty Rix snagged a infield fly ball for the first out and proceeded to flip over to first base for the double play to shut down the Tilden rally in the 5th."

Singles: Isiah A (1), Ben O (3), Austin R (1), Caden S (2), Ty R (1), Jace C (1), Austin G (2), Carson W (1); Doubles: Cameron S (1), Alex S (2); Triples: Aiden K (1), Ty R (1)

Next game: Monday, June 15 against Battle Creek #1 at 7:15 p.m.
