Neligh #1 Jr. Pee Wee Team Splits Games Last Week

6/11/2015

Comments

The Neligh #1 Jr. Pee Wee baseball team went 1-1 last week. The team fell 8-0 to Pierce on Monday, but rebounded on Wednesday to pick up a 5-1 win over Orchard.

"The Neligh #1 team faced strong pitching from Pierce and walked 7 batters in the first inning in which the Warriors couldn’t recover Monday night," Coach Chris Ford said. "The Warriors were only able to generate 2 singles."

Ty Rix and Carter Voorhees each hit a single for Neligh. Pierce struck out 16 of the 22 batters to end Neligh's 3-game winning streak.

"Outside of the first inning giving up 5 runs, the Warriors were able to hold Pierce to only 3 runs the remainder of the game and lose 8-0," he said.

On Wednesday, Neligh "ground out a win against a tough Orchard team," according to Ford.

A pair of hard hit triples by Jace Cameron were crucial for the Neligh team.

"The scoring began in the 2nd inning with a big triple by Jace Cameron and who later scored on a Isaiah Adams’ single," the coach said. "The third inning brought an Alex Stewart single followed by doubles by Austin Rudloff and Cameron Armitage and a Caden Schwager single. Jace Cameron again drove a hard hit ball to the outfield and tallied another triple and was pushed across home with singles by Gavin Longsdord, Isaiah Adams, and Cameron Schindler. The Warriors’ defense showed up with four consecutive shut-out innings, before letting 1 run move across late in the fifth inning."

Ford said Neligh's defense "was stifling the entire game," only allowing Orchard  8 hits for the entire 6 innings game and only 1 run.

Singles: Carter Voorhees 1 (3rd), Aiden Kuester 2 (1st and 4th), Gavin Longsdorf 1 (4th), Isiah Adams 1 (4th), Austin Rudolf 2 (2nd & 4th), Cameron Armitage 2 (2nd & 4th), Landyn Schrader 1 (4th), Cameron Schindler 1 (4th), Caden Schwager 1 (3rd), and Alex Stewart 1 (3rd).

Doubles: Austin Good (1st), Austin Rudolf 1 (3rd), Cameron Armitage 1 (3rd), and Carter Voorhees 1 (1st).

Triples: Jace Cameron 2 (2nd and 5th)
