Red Ribbon Week kicked off Friday at Neligh-Oakdale with a puppet show and will continue into next week with lots of fun activities.
Kids on the Block presented a puppet show for East Ward at 10 a.m. and West Ward at 11 a.m.
Guidance counselor Becky Kerkman said the week is a time to celebrate living a healthy, drug-free life. All guidance lessons throughout the week will focus on making healthy choices for our bodies.
Below is a schedule of the week’s activities.
Friday, Oct. 14 - “United We Stand, For a Drug Free Land”
Help support our troops and law enforcement. Beginning on Friday, students can donate items to be sent in care packages to military men and women currently serving our country. Items can also be donated to create “thank you” baskets for our local law enforcement. Suggested items are on the back of this sheet.
Care Package Items for Soldiers
Ramen noodles or microwave meals
Peanuts or trail mix
Water flavoring packets (ex. Crystal Light)
Packs of gum
Travel size tubes of toothpaste
Pens, pencils, small note pads
Thank You Baskets for Law Enforcement

Monday, Oct. 17 - “My Future is Bright, No Drugs in Sight” - Wear neon or bright colors
Students will receive glow in the dark “My future is bright” bracelets to wear throughout the week. Brad Averill from the extension office will be coming into some of the elementary classrooms to do lessons on nutrition followed by an activity.
Tuesday, Oct. 18 - “Wild About Making Healthy Choices” - Crazy hair day
Each student will decorate a bookmark with a message on how to be healthy or a drug free message. These will be distributed to the school and city libraries.
Wednesday, Oct. 19 - “Follow Your Dreams, Not Drugs” - Pajama day
Students will write pledges on how they will make their future bright.
Brad Averill from the extension office will go into the remainder of the elementary classrooms to do lessons on nutrition followed by an activity.
Thursday, Oct. 20 - Red Day - Students can wear red.
Red Rally Glow Walk at the track 7-8 p.m.
