More than 20 children learned what it truly means to be a community hero when they helped out at the Antelope County Food Pantry in Neligh this week.
As part of the summer reading program at the Neligh Public Library, kids were asked to meet at the local food pantry on Wednesday. The theme for this year's program is "Every Hero Has a Story."
Ages 9-12 helped out in the morning, while ages 6-8 assisted in the afternoon. Three high school students and several adults also volunteered their time. The groups were treated to a pizza lunch, courtesy of the library.
Food pantry manager Bev Aldersen said help is always welcome, as are donations. Food donations may be dropped off shortly before distribution hours, which are 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Lion's Club building, located on the corner of 5th and N streets. Monetary donations may dropped off or sent c/o Aldersen at: 100 North St., Elgin, NE 68636.
