Three Neligh residents and one Ewing resident took part in the Jerry Kitto and Shelley Henry Memorial Golf Tournament at Tatanka Golf Club in Niorbara on July 9.
Team captain Casey Flenniken, Scott Kester, Austin Gadeken and Allan Schueths teamed up for the four-person scramble at one of Northeast Nebraska's newest courses. The four made up one of the 46 teams at the event.
The large number of teams proved to not be a challenge for the quartet as the team finished tied for first place. The resulting playoff gave the team an official finish of second with a score of 60.
"I didn't think we were going to finish that well, but we did," said Kester.
The four took home a $600 prize for their finish. It was a nice reward for a team that was playing altogether for the first time.
"Casey, Austin and I all play together often," explained Kester. "This was the first time I had golfed with Allen."
The tournament was one of the first to be held at the first-year course, operated by the Santee Sioux Nation. The course has been included on Golf Digest's list of the Best New Courses.
