The Neligh Public Library will be holding a signing of the Declaration for the Right to Libraries on Thursday, April 3 and Friday, April 4. During this two-day event, community members are encouraged to visibly declare their right to have a vibrant library in their community by signing the document. This event is intended to continue community engagement by: · Increasing public and media awareness about the critical role of libraries in communities around the country · Inspiring ongoing conversations about the role of the library in the community · Cultivating a network of community allies and advocates for the library · Positioning the library as a trusted convener to help in the response to community issues The Declaration for the Right to Libraries is the cornerstone document of ALA President Barbara Stripiling’s presidential initiative, Libraries Change Lives, which is designed to build the public will and sustained support for America’s right to libraries of all types-academic, special, school and public. Signatures collected on the document will be sent on to state and national representatives during NLA Legislative Day and National Library Legislative Day on May 5 and 6.
