Lady Falcons Win First Game Of Season Over Lady Warriors

The Lady Falcons won their season opener at home over Neligh-Oakdale on Friday night.

Elkhorn Valley jumped out to an early 16-8 advantage in the first quarter and never let go of the lead, winning 31-21.

EV's balanced scoring was led by Ranee Keehn with 8 points, followed by Alyssa Rood, 7; Shelby Cakebread, 6 and Brianna Werner, 6. Click here for Lady Falcon game stats.

"Offensively, we moved the ball pretty well and created quite a few open looks for ourselves. Now that we are more acquainted with the speed of the game, we need to knock down a few more shots as they present themselves," N-O Coach Ron Beacom said. "Defensively, we are playing really hard. We applied better ball pressure and got our hands on a lot of passes. We need to transition better into our defense and become more consistent in checking people off the boards."

While it was disappointing to come away from the weekend without a win, Beacome said "there were certainly a lot of bright spots and a lot of potential for our team to get better."

Kristin Rice led the Lady Warriors with 8 points, followed by Kinsley Klabenes with 6; Heather Pellatz, 4; Danae Smith, 2 and Hallie Knutson, 1.

Elkhorn Valley will travel to Battle Creek today (Saturday) to play the 0-1 Lady Braves, and Neligh-Oakdale will play their third game on the road when they head to Elgin on Tuesday.
