Kleeb: Neligh Residents Guaranteed Nelson, Young Tickets

Next month's cornfield concert featuring Neil Young and Willie Nelson is sure to be a hot ticket, but Neligh residents are guaranteed to get a ticket if they want to purchase one.

"We are committed to making sure all Neligh residents who want a ticket will get one," said Jane Kleeb of Bold Nebraska. 

Proceeds from the “Harvest the Hope” concert on Sept. 27 at Art and Helen Tanderup's land outside Neligh will go to Bold Nebraska, the Indigenous Environmental Network and the Cowboy & Indian Alliance, to fund the ongoing fight against the Keystone XL pipeline, as well as a number of small, community-based clean energy projects on farms and tribal land. 

The afternoon concert will take place in a field on a farm owned by the Tanderups, who are part of a strong collective of Nebraska landowners refusing to sell their land to TransCanada for the Keystone XL (KXL) pipeline.

Kleeb told the Antelope County News that tickets will go on sale Wednesday on the Bold Nebraska website, www.boldnebraska.org through popular concert outlet www.etix.com. Kleeb said "the absolute maximum" number of people at the concert is 10,000. However, they are planning for a more intimate cornfield concert with 3,000-5,000 attending. 

Kleeb said she knows traffic will be difficult the day of the concert and wants things to run as smoothly as possible for Antelope County residents. She also said the eating establishments in Neligh, along with many other businesses, should see an increase in sales with the concert.

Bold Nebraska made the official concert announcement earlier this afternoon after notifying local law enforcement to help them prepare for the event. Kleeb said the concert itself was confirmed four days ago although Bold Nebraska has spent the last year working on getting "big name artist to come to the pipeline route."

She said talks with Young "snowballed" after he and Tanderup spoke during a trip to Washington, D.C. Tanderup was also featured as a Farm Aid hero.

This is the first time Young and Nelson have performed together in Nebraska since 1987 when they shared a stage at the third Farm Aid concert.
