A longtime Neligh tradition is now officially back.
The Imperial II Steakhouse officially opened its doors this morning and served its first meals to customers under the ownership of Bruce and Cindy Hild of Neligh. The building was purchased, remodeled and opened in just over two months. It is managed by Neligh residents Colleen and Clint Meis.
The Hilds purchased the restaurant on Oct. 17 from Doug and Gloria Dennis of Neligh. The Dennis family ran the Imperial Steakhouse before it temporarily housed the El Vallarta Mexican Restaurant, which closed earlier this year. The Imperial Steakhouse has been a staple of the Neligh community for decades.
The Hilds had the paint removed from the exterior of the building to expose the traditional brick and also repainted the interior to remove the cantina feel that was part of El Vallarta. They converted the building back into a steakhouse and lounge and enlarged the bar area and added televisions for a sports lounge feel. There's now room for 70 in the bar area, which has rustic decor with barn siding and steel.
The Imperial II menu features steakhouse traditions like prime rib on Friday and Saturday, along with ribeye and top sirloin, as well as walleye, broasted chicken, chicken fried steak and fajitas. With more than a dozen sandwiches on the menu, there are burgers, chicken, patty melt and their signature prime rib pepper steak sandwich.
The Imperial II also features seven different salads from berry chicken to shrimp and spinach and a variety of wraps, pasta and appetizers. There's also a children's menu.
Reservations will be accepted, though they are not required, and orders are available to go by calling 402-887-4861.
