Longtime Neligh Police Officer Phil Hart has retired, leaving an opening on the local police department, according to Chief Mike Wright.
Wright confirmed that the Neligh Police Department is now taking applications for an additional police officer. The closing date for applications is Dec. 31, 2018.
All applicants must be able to meet the eligibility requirements of the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center to include the following: must be a U.S. Citizen, at least 21 years of age, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record; be of good moral character with NO FELONY or SERIOUS MISDEMEANOR convictions. Be willing to sign a release of information from all previous employers including military as a thorough background investigation will be conducted; pre-employment drug/alcohol screening, physical standards test, polygraph exam, medical and psychological exam are required.
A Nebraska Certified Officer is preferred but is not required. Non-certified applicants must be able to pass admission requirements for the NLETC and become Nebraska Certified with one year of hire date.
According to the listing, applicants must be willing to relocate to within 15 miles if Neligh, NE upon start date. All uniforms and duty equipment provided including take home patrol vehicle, Glock 19 Gen 4 9mm handgun, AR-15, less lethal shotgun, ballistic vests, Taser X2, Watch Guard In-Car and body worn camera.
