Fire Department Responds to Grass Fire East Of Neligh

A short on a transformer pole is being blamed for a grass fire northeast of Neligh this afternoon.

The Neligh Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call at about 2:35 p.m. Monday.

According to Elkhorn Public Power District employees on scene, a short on a transformer pole started the fire. Due to dry, windy conditions, the linemen could not contain the fire themselves.

The fire was located just north of the intersection of 850th Rd and 530 Ave.
