Attention: Bakers! Entries for the Bread 'N Jam's Adult Bake-Off are due in one week, Thursday, Sept. 11. A $300 grand prize is being offered for first place in each division. There will also be a $200 cash prize for second place and a $100 prize for third. Click here for a registration form. Adult categories are yeast bread, sweet bread, dinner rolls and decorated cake. Those entering must present one loaf of yeast bread, sweet bread, six dinner rolls, decorated sheet cake or two layered cake for judging by 9 a.m. in the lower level of the Neligh Mill. All yeast breads must use Red Star Yeast. Entries will be judged equally on taste and appearance/display. For the children's baking contest, kids ages 6-14 years old, will present six chocolate chip cookies or one single-layer, round decorated cake by 9 a.m. Cookies and cakes will be judged on taste and appearance. No pre-registration is required for the kids' contest. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners and prizes will be given to all of the children contestants. There will also be a special Anita Miller memorial prize. Bread 'N Jam Schedule of Events: Hourly prizes will be awarded, including a 40-inch flat screen TV and assorted gift bags. Nebraska State Patrol Simulator/Roll-Over Demonstration Neligh-Oakdale Jaws of Life Demonstration 7 to 10 a.m. - Boy Scouts of America Pancake Breakfast at the Senior Citizens' Center, free-will donation 7 a.m. registration, 8 a.m. race begins - AMH 5K Walk/Run/Relay, register at the Neligh Tourism Office. Race to begin at 8 a.m. with awards ceremony to follow. 9 to 11 a.m. - Farmer's Market, south side of the Antelope County Courthouse 9 to 11 a.m. - Muffins at The Willows Assisted Living Center, "Arts for the Ages" is theme for Assisted Living Week 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. - Kids' Inflatable Bouncy House 9 a.m. to noon registration - Classic Show & Shine Car Show, located on Wylie Drive near the Mill. Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Best of Show and Participant Pick awards will be given. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Free admission to the Neligh Mill State Historical Site 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Free admission to the Museum, Log Cabin and Pioneer Church 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Craft-Trade Show, American Legion Club 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Live Entertainment on the Neligh Mill East Lawn, featuring Bob and Sheila Everhart, Sisters Trio, Lonesome Walker Band and more. 2 p.m. - Special program at Pioneer Church. Dr. Barb Black of Wayne State College will present "Memories: One-Room Country Schools" and Dr. Sam Herley of the University of South Dakota will present "Harry Truman, Small Towns, and the Importance of Studying History." The Antelope County Historical Society is sponsoring this free program for the Bread n' Jam Festival. 4 p.m. registration, 4:30 p.m. start - Lawn Mower Poker Run sponsored by Jonny Dodge and Sargent Irrigation. Proceeds will benefit the Neligh-Oakdale TeamMates Mentoring Program. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. in the Riverside Park picnic shelter, and the poker run will begin at 4:30 p.m. The entry fee is $15. Lawn mowers, ATVs, scooters, golf carts or bicycles may be driven to each of the designated six stops in Neligh. Children under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult. At each stop, participants will roll the dice. The highest overall score will win a parking pass and two Husker football tickets to the October 25 game vs Rutgers, donated by David Wanek and Maribeth Portz. Prizes will also be awarded to those wearing the best Husker attire and those with the best decorated vehicle. After the poker run - A walking taco/hotdog feed will follow the poker run at the Riverside Park picnic shelter. The cost is $5 and will include your choice of a walking taco or hotdog, drink and ice cream dessert.
