Neligh-Oakdale - and much of Neligh and Antelope County - has gone blue today in support of Nate Metschke.
The idea behind going blue is not only for Metschke, who begins his first round of chemotherapy today to fight colon cancer, but it's also for colon cancer awareness. Many people are also posting photos of themselves wearing blue.
Just a week after having surgery for cancer, Metschke publicly talked about it in an article with the Antelope County News with the intent of increasing awareness. The Neligh-Oakdale band teacher said he simply wanted more people to get screen and recognize their symptoms.
People throughout the area are changing the Facebook profile photos and sharing a heart with the words "Nate" and a blue line through it to both support and increase awareness, as this is Colon Cancer Awareness month.
The Antelope County News has plans for more colon cancer awareness stories in March.
