YOU SPOKE – WE LISTENED!!! Ever feel like government ignores your great idea? Today, the City of Neligh is proud to say that we’ve listened and implemented a great idea! We asked you “How you want City Officials to communicate with you?” on Envision Neligh. The majority of you responded by email, Facebook, or text message. We also had user “Nate M4” suggest text message alerts as his “Big Idea.” We thought this would be easy to implement, so we ran with it! We’ve already got a Facebook Page so we focused on text message and email communications. We found a company that specializes in both forms of communication, Nixle. How it works? If there is something that the public should be alerted of, we will send out a text or email message to those who have signed up for the service. Examples of messages are: street closings, water main breaks, electric service interruptions, weather advisories, evacuation notices, or amber alerts. Messages will always come from Neligh Police Department, however, message topics will cover the full spectrum of public safety in Neligh. How do I sign up? Below you will find a sign up box where you can sign up for the messages. Or it is as easy as texting 68756 to the number 888777 (if you have a signature on your texts you will need to delete the signature). It will say you might get charged for sending the message, but you will not get charged as long as your phone can receive text messages. Standard messaging rates may apply (talk to your phone provider for more information). Note: This system will not work with home phones, voice messaging is not available at this time. Alerts and Advisories can only be sent via email or text. You choose how you want to receive messages! Nixle, the company we partnered with has some unique options. You can choose to receive emergency alerts via text message but have less important advisories sent to your email. For more information, visit Nixle’s site. If you have further questions you can check out the City’s site or call Greg @ 887-4447 This is yet another testament that the City of Neligh really wants and values your input. So if you haven’t signed up for Envision Neligh, check it out and help us shape the future of Neligh! OR attend a face-to-face town hall meeting on March 6th at 7:00 pm at the Neligh Senior Citizen Center. By Greg Ptacek – Director of Neligh Economic Development Office |
