With numerous hurricanes devastating a number of cities in Texas and Florida recently, many people are in need of help. Citizens are looking for anything to help them recover and rebuild in the tough time. People from all across the country have stepped up to help, including many local churches.
Grace Lutheran Church in Neligh is leading the charge to raise funds to help provide relief to those in need.
The church is teaming up with more than 15 churches throughout Northeast Nebraska to raise funds for hurricane disaster relief. They will be hosting a fundraising meal on Saturday, September 30 to do so.
The meal, which will consist of barbecue pork sandwiches, will be served from 5-8 p.m. at the Antelope County Ag Building. A free-will donation will be taken, with all proceeds going to hurricane relief by way of the Orphan Grain Train. The local charity was an obvious choice when looking at how to help, according to Marlene Timm.
"People around here are familiar with it and they are local," she said.
The group, who's motto is "Better Together," expect more than 800 people to attend the feed, giving them a chance to raise a great amount of funds to help those in need.
