The community is invited to meet Neligh's newest dentist, Dr. Tim Brovont, next week at an open house at Terry Jensen, DDS. The Neligh Chamber of Commerce is hosting a coffee and cookie event from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 6, at Jensen's office - 322 Main Street. Jensen said Brovont will be at the Chamber Coffee with his wife, Cristina, and son, Wesley. Those unable to attend the open house can plan to meet him at a Neligh Chamber of Commerce After Hours event at a later date. "He's anxious to meet the community," said Jensen, who has practiced in Neligh for the last 37 years. The open house will also give the community an opportunity to meet new dental hygienist Sheryl Baker and see the newly remodeled office, including new paint and flooring. Brovont has a three-year commitment with Jensen and will be an associate with Terry Jensen Dentistry. After three years, Brovont will purchase the business from Jensen. Jensen said Brovont is expected to start seeing patients at the end of June. He's originally from Lyons, Neb., and received his doctorate of dental surgery from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry earlier this year. Brovont passed is boards and is waiting on his license. "He's the future of dentistry in Neligh," Jensen said. "We welcome everyone to come in and meet him." Jensen first began communicating with Brovont last February about coming to Neligh. Brovont sent letters to every dentist in a 30-mile radius of Pierce, where he plans to live with his family.
"I was the only one who responded," Jensen said. "I told him I'm not ready to retire, but I can't pass up an opportunity to get a young dentist in Neligh."
Jensen said they corresponded via email for sometime, then Brovont visited Neligh and made his decision.
Jensen introduced Brovont to Greg Ptacek, Neligh's Economic Development Director, and then toured the community.
"In my original letter, I told him I can either be hunting or playing golf within 10 minutes of leaving the office," Jensen said. "I think he liked that."
Jensen said Brovont enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, football and Husker athletics.
Jensen plans to cut back to seeing patients just three days a week. Brovont will also see patients in Neligh three days a week. Brovont will be in Norfolk on Monday and Tuesday and in Neligh on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The Brovont family is building a home in Pierce and will live there. Cristina Brovont, also a dentist, has spent the last two years at a practice in Norfolk and has been living with her parents in Pierce.
Baker is the daughter of Joan Pollock and the late Virtus Sehi and is a graduate of Neligh-Oakdale Schools.
She received her dental hygiene degree at Central Community College in Hastings and has been in the dental field nearly 40 years - 33 of those years as a hygienist.
Sheryl and her husband, Roland, live in Neligh. Together, they have four children and three grandchildren. Her hobbies include camping, gardening and photography.
