'Bowl Games' Highlight Neligh-Oakdale Family Math Night

Playing "Bowl Games" made math fun for students at Neligh-Oakdale's Family Math Night on Monday.

Approximately 70 parents and 3-6 grade students attended the event.

From building with sugar cubes to estimating measurements with cotton balls, kids practiced a variety of math skills while playing games.

There were a lot of laughs in the fourth grade classroom where Mr. Rick Eickholt used some "bathroom humor" for his toilet bowl trivia and math questions.

The third grade classroom hosted the Cotton Bowl; fourth grade - Toilet Bowl; fifth grade - Sugar Bowl; and sixth grade - Holiday Bowl.
 
Students competed in the Left-handed Cotton Ball Flick, as well as the Cotton Ball shot put, and the Cotton Ball Touch Down. Fourth grade hosted the Toilet Bowl, and figured the number of times a family of four used the toilet each year and how many gallons of water were used. Fifth grade hosted the Sugar Bowl and determined the volume of a set of sugar cubes and were also asked to reproduce designs that were pictured on cards.  Sixth grade hosted the Holiday Bowl where they played Integer Football and completed holiday word problems.

All of the students received two football-related prizes after completing the bowl games. There were also 6 excited students who received Husker prizes, including t-shirts, a football, a pillow, a water bottle, and a hat.  

"Thanks to those parents and students who attended this entertaining and educational event," Susie Loofe said.
