Big Bucks: An Innovative Way To Encourage Local Buying

A big buck is something to be coveted in Nebraska, perhaps now-so more than ever.  The Neligh Chamber of Commerce has re-invented the use of the term.  I’m sure you’ve been beat over the head with everyone telling you to “Shop Local.”  Well the Neligh Chamber has launched an innovative effort to encourage local shopping while making it fun.

Enter stage left the colorfully decorated Neligh Big Bucks!

These camouflaged bills range in color from green camo to a pink camo.  If that wasn’t enough to make them stand out, the denominations are different as well.  The bills come in 3, 6, 11, and 21. 

How the heck does it work?  Big Bucks work just like cash at participating Chamber of Commerce businesses. 

Your Big Bucks are backed by legal tender in a bank account at a 1 to 1 match.  You can buy a Big Buck from the Chamber of Commerce/Economic Development Office, Hilltop Drug Etc., or Pinnacle Bank.  Just bring in cash and you can leave with a handful of Big Bucks.  Look for the “I like Big Bucks” sign near a cash register or check out the Chamber’s website for a full list of who is currently accepting Big Bucks.

Only Chamber Members will get reimbursed for accepting Big Bucks, so make sure you look for the sign that says “I like Big Bucks” when spending your funky looking cash!
