Winners were recently announced for Antelope Memorial Hospital's Biggest and Best Loser Program.
“I think AMH’s Biggest and Best Losers Program is a good program,” said Timmeree Gadeken of Neligh. “It gets you started taking healthy steps for the year. Plus, it’ll help me stay on the right track ‒ the rest of the year.”
The contest was held from January 11 – March 25 for 10 weeks, coordinated by Natalie McKillip, AMH Wellness Director, and Katie Fick, AMH Wellness Assistant. A total of 1,085 pounds was collectively lost by the 105 contestants, to include 65 individuals (19 men / 46 women) and 10 teams of four. Three divisions were held for men, women and teams.
Timmeree Gadeken (Neligh) was the first-place winner in the women’s division, losing 17.2% of her total body weight. Other women’s winners included − second-place: Linda Mitchell (Elgin) and third place: Mary Pfanstiel (Orchard).
Gail Knust (Neligh) was the first-place winner in the men’s division, losing 18.7% of his total body weight. Gail said the contest gave him a great incentive to lose weight. "It was very rewarding to reach my goal. Every week I set reasonable goals in order to succeed. I definitely would recommend this program to others," he said.
Other winners in the men’s division included − second-place: Timothy Kester (Clearwater) and third-place: unnamed participant. In the Team Division, the first-place winners, “We Didn’t Learn,” collectively lost 12.3%. Its members included Dan, Aaron, Austin and Timmeree Gadeken (Neligh).
"It’s a great program run by great people," said Dan Gadeken, captain of the team. "It’s a big commitment if you want to be successful. However, the older I get ‒ the more important it is to me to take steps to stay healthy."
The second-place team members, the “Beef Eaters”, were Ann Beckman and Jessica, Craig and Nathan Niewohner (Elgin). The third-place team members, “Belly Blasters," were Christie Counts, Heather Dawson and Amy Wright (Neligh) and Gini Seier (Petersburg).
Donations were made by AMH Wellness, Overland Rehab, Subway, Cubby’s, Razor’s Edge, Hilltop Drug Etc., Eye Physicians, Thriftway Market, 319 Graphics, Wanek Pharmacy, Lucy’s Flower Corner, Bangles Blvd., Clip ‘n Curl, Elgin Pharmacy, Moyer’s Department Store and Neligh’s Weight Watchers.
