What is "Ag Olympics?" It's a new event that will kick off the 2014 Antelope County Fair on Tuesday, July 29 and is open to a wide range of ages, 4-year-olds up to adults. "We added Ag Olympics because we wanted something fun for the kids to do," Jennifer Pellatz said. The event will be held in the horse arena at the Antelope County Fairgrounds. Registration is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. and competition will start at 7 p.m. Pre-registration is available by calling Ed and Jennifer Pellatz at 402-887-4665. A maximum of 10 teams will be accepted for each age category. Participants will compete in teams of two and all six events must be completed together. There will be four age divisions: 4-6 years; 7-12 years; 13-18 years; and adults. Teams with the top three overall performances in their division will be awarded cash prizes (1st - $25, 2nd - $15, 3rd - $10) and medals. The winning team will also receive t-shirts from the Antelope County News. Ag Olympics Events: Pole Bending - Team members will gallop separate stick horses around a set of cones. Cow Milking - A full quart of milk will be milked as a team from a "simulated cow." Cattle Roping - Teams will throw a rope at least 3 times around a calf dummy before moving to the next event. Bale Stacking - Six "bales" (bags of wood chips) will be moved from one area to another (1/2 bags for kids). Clothes Hanging - Teams will hang clothes on a wire (smaller clothing items will be used for kids). Tire Flipping - Both team members must get one tire flipped until it crosses the finish line (different sizes of tires will be used for each age division).
