Afternoon preschool at Neligh-Oakdale has been a new adventure for 19 young children.
This has been their first experience in school. They come to school four days a week and have learned a lot. One of the things we have worked on the most has been social skills. They have learned how to play with their peers, share, take turns, and follow directions and rules. Another thing they have worked on every day has been writing their name, and they have made great improvement.
This class has worked on counting and letters. The time they have enjoyed most has been choice time. During choice time, they get to play in areas such as art, blocks, housekeeping, computer, library, and sensory table. Housekeeping is one of the most popular areas. During this time, the teachers talk and play with the students to increase their learning through play, which is the way they learn best.
Out of the 19 students in this class, 18 will be coming back to preschool next year; one will be moving on to kindergarten. These children will also be participating in the preschool graduation. The students who will be returning to preschool will get a certificate of completion for one year of preschool.
They are looking forward to coming back to preschool in the fall to work hard and learn a lot. They cannot believe that their first year of school is almost over.
