The Orchard/Antelope County News was recognized Saturday by the Nebraska Press Association as one of the top newspapers in the prestigious Better Newspaper Contests.
The Orchard/Antelope County News received 16 content awards, as well as an award for third place in the sweepstakes category.
More than 3,800 separate entries, representing nine dailies and 63 weeklies, were judged by members of the Kansas Press Association. First, second and third place winners were announced Saturday night at an Awards Banquet at the Country Inn & Suites-North in Lincoln, where more than 175 journalists attended.
The Gering Courier and Arlington Citizen led the Class A division with the Orchard/Antelope County News placing third in its first year of ownership by Pitzer Digital, LLC.
Two staff were also individually recognized on Saturday during the NPA convention. Graphic Designer Samantha Cleveland was among the Outstanding Young Journalist winners, and Cadrien Livingston, who is interning with the ACN this summer, was a scholarship winner.
Three other newspapers in Antelope County also won awards on Saturday from the NPA. The Elgin Review won 11 awards, Neligh News & Leader won seven awards and Clearwater Record-Ewing News won five awards. The Elgin Review and Neligh News & Leader are in Class B while the Clearwater Record-Ewing News is in Class A.
