3rd Street, Alley To Close During ESU 8 Remodel

A portion of 3rd Street and the alley between ESU 8 and the U.S. Post Office will likely be closed for about a year.

The Neligh City Council approved the closure during the ESU 8 remodel to allow Radec Construction to erect a fence around the project.

Bill Huey of Radec and Kelly Lehr of Prochaska and Associates discussed the project with members of the council during last Tuesday’s meeting and requested approval to close a portion of the street and alley.

​Third Street is expected to be closed until May 2018 from Main Street to the west side of the alley, leaving access for one-way traffic on the south side for Urbanec’s Furniture and Flooring, which we need access for warehouse merchandise.

The alley located behind the ESU will be blocked off to the edge of the Thriftway Market parking lot.  Those wanting to access the post office drop box will not be able to use the alley during this time period.

The council unanimously approved the closure, pending approval of property owners. Council member Leonard Miller was not present.

Construction is slated to begin in August on the ESU 8 building. It is expected to last 14-18 months.

Council members also discussed resurfacing the alley following the construction. City Engineer John Zwingman advised the council to replace the sewer line before resurfacing.
