N-O Superintendent Strives For Improved Communication

In his first official meeting as the new leader of Neligh-Oakdale schools, Superintendent Scott Gregory made it clear improving communication with the community is at the top of his list.

​Monday’s Board of Education meeting was Gregory’s first official meeting as the new administrator, and he used the superintendent report to state his plans for the school district.

“One of the key things I’ll be looking at is communication, especially with the community - social media, Twitter - to really put our brand and PR out there,” he said. “I think that’s a key thing because a lot of great things are going on in this building, and there are a lot of people downtown and in neighboring communities who need to know that as well. That can only serve everyone well with an open and transparent relationship with the community.”

With the facility, Gregory complimented his custodial crew for their work over the summer in “making the building shine.” 

He also said the district has progressed well with technology, especially since implementing the 1:1 initiative, which means giving each student in junior high and high school their own laptop. The initiative was approved in late 2014 and put into place during the last school year.

Gregory said he isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel with technology in the classroom, but he does want to use it appropriately.

“It’s one thing to play a math learning game and learn from it, but after the fifth time, that’s probably not the best practice,” he said. 

Also among his priorities is building pride in the school by showcasing student work, the mission statement and other aspects of Warrior Pride. 

Gregory said he’s already begun working on the school budget, which will go to the board in August.
