Irrigation is an extremely important part of agriculture. So Midplains Ag dedicated a day to looking at technologies and methods that improve irrigation and improve agriculture.
Rich Uhrenholdt is the founder and president of Midplains Ag near Elgin and said that this field day was created for the farmers.
“Water is a big issue for Nebraska," Uhrenholdt said, "And I just thought a field day that was oriented towards water management and technology for people who are working towards improving water management, its an important thing for Nebraska to do.”
There were vendors and speakers throughout the day to explain the importance of irrigation along with demonstrating new technology.
“It all ties into the bigger picture," Ryan Hemenway of Midplains Ag said. "Of course it is all agriculture, it’s the technology in agriculture, and being able to manage your crops better. It all comes back down to not only controlling, but managing the fields.”
Several hundred people came out throughout the day for the speakers, vendors, and displays out in the field.
Elgin FFA members were at the field day to help, but also to learn more about agriculture and irrigation.
“This doesn’t just help the farmers, it helps everyone because you really need to know how to manage water if you're using that much of it," Elgin FFA President Marie Meis said. "And farmers are using a lot of it. So this is a really good way to bring the people who know about the water, to the farmers who are using the water.”
Uhrenholdt said that he hope to make this irrigation field day an annual event.
