Firefighters Save House During Fire Southwest Of Plainview

A house was spared from fire southwest of Plainview early Sunday evening.

The Plainview Fire Department, along with mutual aid from Brunswick, responded to a fire 3 miles west and 3 1/2 miles south of Plainview around 5:25 p.m. The property is owned by Liz Wood, according to Plainview Fire Department Chief Mike McManaman.

McManaman said the call was originally for a grass fire, but word was received that it was moving close to a home. He said firefighters were able to contain the fire before it moved to the home. 

"When we pulled in, we had fire everywhere and headed toward the house,” McManaman said. “We hit that first and started backtracking into the wind.”

McManaman said there was no property damage, other than old cars on the property.
